Tasmanian Mushroom Festival: Online Fungi Bioblitz with Shane Marshall
Join citizen scientist and amateur mycologist Shane Marshall for the official online launch of the Tasmanian Mushroom Festival Fungi Bioblitz
This free online session introduces participants to the world of fungal observation, identification, and community science. Whether you’re a seasoned naturalist or completely new to fungi, this event will help you get involved, contribute meaningful data, and explore Tasmania’s fungal diversity, no matter where you are in the world.
About the Presenter
Shane Marshall grew up in north‑west Tasmania, where his fascination with fungi began nearly 20 years ago. Now based in the Netherlands, his interest has grown into a full‑blown obsession. Shane creates educational content through his Facebook page Tasmanian Forager, leads regular fungi ID excursions in his region, and remains deeply connected to the Australian fungi community.
He volunteers his time identifying fungi and supporting learners across multiple Facebook groups, and is an official iNaturalist ambassador, active on the platform most days. For the Tasmanian Mushroom Festival, Shane will be facilitating the month‑long Fungi Bioblitz and guiding participants through how to record and submit observations.
